Message from the President of the All Malaysia Malayalee Association,
Datuk Suseela Menon
My sincere thanks to each and every one of you for having given me the opportunity to serve our community as the first lady President of AMMA. It has been a great year indeed, with so much warmth and support shown to me by my fellow Malayalees from all over the country. It has been a fantastic journey of leading, sharing and learning- a journey that I hope will leave a lasting impact.
When I took over as President of AMMA, I had set a few objectives that I felt would be instrumental in further improving our communal comradeship. Our team worked very hard to build a sustainable model and framework to ensure that we achieve our long-term goals. I am happy to inform you that we are making tremendous progress.
We have undertaken a number of successful activities and events this year, mainly as a first step towards the great things we have in mind for the year ahead of us. We organized a Malayalam Film Festival in collaboration with the High Commission of India and it turned out to be a great success. Both our Ladies and Youth Wings have also been pushing the extra mile to enhance our branding and profile by initiating various quality events.
The events that we have planned for 2015/16 are reflective of our vision to capitalize on our strengths and realize our dream of being seen as a dynamic and strong society in the eyes of the nation. Below are some of our projects for the year ahead:
- We are in the process of finalising the location for our Malayalee Community Centre, following which active work can commence with regard to planning approvals and construction of the Centre.
- We are working closely with Astro to obtain a dedicated television channel for Malayalees and we hope to be able to share some good news with you in the near future.
- Plans have been finalized for AMMA to host a global event which is scheduled for November 27th, 28th and 29th, 2015.
- Jointly with Amma Foundation, we successfully organized “Stand-up for Education” in December 2014, which involved our Youth in a big way. We are already seeing a revival of youth interest in AMMA. We will be organizing “My Right to Play” and “Stand-up for Education” in the coming months, which will see more of our youth involvement.
On behalf of the Executive Council members, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all our affiliate Samajams for the support and cooperation that is constantly and willingly extended to me. A special word of thanks to the Immediate Past President, Tan Sri Ravindran Menon, who continues to guide and support me in my role as President.
My warmest regards and best wishes to each and every one of you.
